Why do young people not like golf anymore

Posted by Alfred on

It’s no secret that golf is not as popular as it used to be. Especially among younger people. Ever since the depression in the nineties, golf’s popularity has been declining, it didn’t even stop after the economic downturn ended. One might argue that golf is on the decline due to the competition – there are so many other cheaper ways to entertain yourself in 2018. Netflix, video games, improved TV – i think all of these players are in direct competition with golf, and they seem to be winning. Also, the fact that golf equipment keeps getting expensive while inflation-adjusted income is on the decline, doesn’t help the matters, either.

How did we get here?

While i must admit i’m no expert, and haven’t done professional research to support my opinions, i have some ideas that might explain golf’s apparent decline in popularity. I think it has something to do with greedines of golf equipment manufacturers and brands. Back in the seventies, when i first started playing golf as a kid, clubs weren’t released this frequently, so you didn’t have to cough up thousands of dollars every year just to stay competitive. Meanwhile, in recent years, brands realized that rich people were willing to pay more frequently to have newest and hottest golf clubs, so they started designing and releasing new golf clubs much more often. That leaves average-income golfers in sharp disadvantage, as golf clubs are almost as important to your results as expertise. But there is a way out – there are plenty of golf clubs that aren’t expensive but will improve your game as much as top notch clubs. There’s good guide with tips and tricks i used to find those clubs.

Golf also wasn’t of particular millenials, people who represent biggest demographic in the USA. This shouldn’t come as surprise, because 21st century has brought us ability to entertain ourselves whenever we want, wherever we want. While some people still prefer outdoors activities like golf, others preferred indoors entertainment if given the choice. Gaming industry was built on those people, so was Netflix and myriad of other innovations that changed entertainment industry forever. In 21st century, expectations of customers have never been higher, and with it’s high prices and time consuming process, golf just can’t compare to other forms of entertainment as well as it used to. That didn’t affect businessmen, who still found playing golf to be effective way to make deals and network.

I’ve also heard my grandson complain that golf’s rules are too complicated. And that probably has something to do with convenience of entertainment i mentioned above. Some young people just can’t be bothered to learn how to play golf. And if you don’t know how to play – of course you won’t enjoy it.

Choosing golf clubs as a woman

Posted by Alfred on

Over the years, golf courses have been becoming more and more women friendly. Number of women who golf has risen too, so it’s probably safe to say that the commitment by courses to make themselves women friendly paid off.

Golfers, regardless of their gender, are only allowed to have 14 clubs on the course. This number has been settled on so that people would be allowed to have clubs for any particular distance they wanted. So it’s our responsibility to wisely choose the golf clubs to carry, because they’ll be crucial to achieving the results we want. In today’s post, i’ll be talking about choosing golf clubs for women – how to do it, what are some of my tips and what mistakes you should avoid.

Sheer number of women who wanted to play golf has inspired golf equipment manufacturers to start making quality golf clubs for women. These clubs were only slightly different from men’s clubs, but some small changes had to be made. Among other things, women’s arms are usually not as strong as men’s,  so designs had to be tweaked to account for these differences.

It’s hard to single out any golf club, or club set, because everyone’s situation is different. Some are beginners, while others are experts, and others aren’t even women but men looking for golf clubs to buy for their wives or mothers. All i can do is teach you how to land on good women’s golf clubs. If there’s anything else you don’t understand, this tutorial will be further help.

First of all, pay attention to your height and choose clubs accordingly. If you fail to do so, and clubs turn out to be too large or short for your arms, you’ll have to have them customized and fitted so that they work for you.

There’s also issue of choosing club sets vs buying individual clubs one by one. In my opinion, if you’re a beginner, it’s always better to buy whole set of clubs, for two reasons. First is that – it will be much cheaper, so it will allow you to stretch your budget further. Club sets sometimes come with club bags, too, so that’s another opportunity to cut costs. Second of all, when you’re just getting started, you don’t need fancy clubs to learn how to play. You can, and should get started with something simple, like affordable women’s club sets offered by Callaway, and improve your golf skills with those. Once you’ve gotten better, you can always upgrade.

If you’re more of an expert, then buying individual clubs is probably wiser choice. But if you were an expert, you probably wouldn’t be taking advice from my blog post.

How to improve your golf skills

Posted by Alfred on

Learning to play golf at amateur level isn’t hard. All you need is basic golf club set to get you started. Once you have that, you should learn basic rules of the game and head straight to the course and start playing. Eventually, you’ll get better, but more importantly, you’ll have fun playing on the weekends. But some competitive people want more than that. So if you’re one of them, and want to get as good at golf as you possibly can, this blog post is for you. Today, we’ll be discussing how to reach your maximum potential as a golfer.

One obvious way to do this, is taking golf lessons. But there are two drawbacks to this approach – first of all, golf lessons are expensive, and second of all, it takes a lot of time. Some people think that golf lessons are pointless, especially after taking one or two classes. There’s evidence that for most people, golf lessons are pretty much ineffective after first or second class. That’s when you learn the basics, and once you do, your learning curve pretty much plateaus, because the rest of the skills aren’t acquired by following teachers, but by doing the thing itself. That’s why, some people, including myself, think that lessons are pointless. Time can be spent much more effectively by observing your friends play the game. And they won’t charge you on per-hour basis, either. If you really want to attend a golf lesson,  just take them once or twice. More than that, and you’ll be wasting your money.

Other way to improve your golf skills, is to spend time playing the game itself. I’ve read somewhere that it takes thousands of hours of doing something to become really good at that thing, and i couldn’t agree more. I apply the same approach to improving my golf performance – the only lessons i’ve used to improve my game are the trials and failures i went through. And looking back, i wouldn’t change a thing.

So to sum it all up, if you’re a beginner, my recommendation would be to get decent club set. I’m a women, so can only speak of golf clubs for ladies, and i recommend kalea club set by TaylorMade. GolfClubsGuru wrote excellent review on kalea club set. It’s not the cheapest option on the market, but if you have budget for it, the quality is worth the money. If you don’t, Callaway sells some good women’s club sets  with their Strata line. Plus, buying used is always an option. And once you have those clubs, just learn basics from internet, your friends, or maybe even go to a golf lesson, but once you master the basics, it’s better to play on your own and get better that way.
